Beach style kara pori recipe is one of the specialty street foods of Chennai. You can see this snack sold every where in Marina beach and also in Renganathan street, especially outside big shops, jewellery etc. Beach style kara pori is a basically puffed rice mixed with boiled peanuts and assorted veggies. The vendor sets up a moving cart with steaming pot of boiled peanuts in the center and has all the ingredients like puffed rice, grated carrots, mangoes, tomatoes surrounding the pot.Once you order,he will mix up everything in a very fast and efficient way,add salt ,chilli powder and some lemon juice and hand it over to you in a paper cone or in some places they use disposable cups and spoons.I have never had this in Marina beach, but I have often eaten this kara pori in renganathan street while I was working here in Chennai. The other day I was shopping with my aunt and saw these vendors selling this kara pori, this time I was tempted not to eat but to make my own beach style kara pori 🙂 . This is a no brainier recipe, you can make this on your own just by seeing the ingredients that any vendor has put up in front of you. Also the addition of ingredients is purely subject to availability and your taste, for instance I have not added raw mango in this recipe as I did not have one. Same way in some places they add cucumber and some don’t.Again this is one of those street foods (when prepared in hygienic conditions),very healthy, filling with low calories. This would be a great evening snack also light and filling breakfast.Apart from the above mentioned reasons, you must try this beach style kara pori at least once because, this is ADDICTIVE 🙂 . You make it once and you are not going to stop,I bet :). If you have boiled peanuts in hand, you can throw this kara pori recipe together in just 10 minutes( well, that also depends on how fast you are at chopping veggies 🙂 Once you mix up everything be sure to serve or eat immediately as you would not want to much on soggy puffed rice or watery carrots. Be sure to prepare a large batch as I said above this is addictive!
