Making subway style rolls was in my to do list for a long time. Though I bake bread regularly at home mostly they are garlic loaf, whole wheat loaf types. This subway style roll just happened yesterday after a long wait.
The recipe for dough is just a whole wheat bread recipe. The shaping was very easy than I thought.
Filled with flavorful and spicy paneer cubes and crisp cucumber slices these rolls are so delicious, comforting and filling.
You can make the rolls, filling and sauce ahead of time and assemble the sandwich just before serving.

How To Make Paneer Tikka Sandwich?
To make paneer tikka sandwich fist we prepare the paneer tikka masala. You can also use this paneer tikka masala recipe for filling.
The fresh soft roll is slit half the way and toast it slightly. Apply the preferred the sauce. Place the prepared paneer tikka filling and top with fresh veggies. Serve the sandwich immediately once assembled.
For the sauce, here I just used homemade tomato sauce. You can also use
- mayonnaise
- honey mustard sauce
- mix yogurt with tomato sauce
- sour cream
How To Make Paneer Tikka Filling For Sandwich?
Combine gram flour, spice powders, salt in a bowl. Add curd and whisk well. Add the paneer cubes and marinate for 30 minutes.
Saute the marinated paneer in hot oil along with chopped onions and bell peppers well. The addition of bell peppers lends such a wonderful flavor to the filling.
This paneer tikka filling can also be used make wraps, topping pizza.

If you do not have subway style roll you can use pav bread or regular bread slice for this sandwich
Instead of paneer you can use par boiled potato cubes
If your bread is freshly baked then toasting is not needed. Just spread the sauce and keep the filling.
You can slit the roll halfway through or completely as per preference.
How To Make Paneer Tikka Sandwich Recipe Step by Step
Combine gram flour, red chili powder, turmeric powder, garam masala powder, salt in a mixing bowl.
Add curd and make a lump free paste.
Add the paneer cubes and mix well. Marinate for 30 minutes.
Heat oil in a pan and temper with cumin seeds.
Add chopped onions, bell peppers and saute well for 2-3 minutes.
Now add the marinated paneer along with marination.
Mix well, saute and cook till the masala gets well cooked. It may take around 5-7 minutes.
Once done, add lemon juice and mix well. Let cool for 10 minutes.
To assemble paneer tikka sandwich:
Slit the whole wheat roll halfway through.
Spread some butter and toast slightly on hot tava.
Spread some tomato sauce or ketchup in the rolls.
Place generous amount of paneer tikka masala.
Place chopped tomatoes and cucumbers.
Close with the other half of the roll and serve immediately.

Ingredients
For paneer tikka filling
- 200 grams paneer, cubed
- 3 tablespoons curd yogurt
- 2 tablespoons gram flour chickpea flour
- 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
To make paneer tikka sandwich
- 3 subway rolls or dinner rolls or Indian pav
- 3 tablespoon tomato sauce or mayonnaise
- 1 cucumber sliced
- 2 tomatoes sliced
Instructions
