Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups orange juice freshly squeezed and undiluted
  • 4 tablespoons or more sugar
  • 1-2 tablespoons agar agar
  • 1/8 teaspoon saffron very finely crushed
  • 4 tablespoons water
  • Orange peels to serve

Instructions

  • Squeeze juice from fresh oranges and reserve the peel. Measure out 1 1/2 cups of orange juice in a bowl. Add sugar and very finely crushed saffron. Mix well till the sugar dissolves.
  • Remove the fiber and white pith from the orange peel and keep the orange cup ready.
  • Rinse and soak agar agar in 4 tablespoons of water. I have used just 1 tablespoon agar agar here. For more firm jelly you can use 2 tablespoons. Once the agar agar is well soaked, transfer this to a small pan and cook in low flame till agar agar is completely dissolved. Add this to the orange juice and mix well. Filter it once to remove any agar agar flakes.
  • Pour this jelly mixture into the reserved orange cups and set for 2-3 hours. No need to refrigerate. If storing for long time then keep in fridge. Cut and serve orange jelly as required.

Notes

1. You can use orange food color instead of saffron
2. If you want more flavor you can add 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
