Ingredients

  • 30 mini idlis
  • For podi idli
  • 2 tablespoons idli podi
  • For lemon idlis
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1/8 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • Sauteed bell peppers for making skewers

Instructions

  • Make mini idlis using idli batter. Allow to cool for few minutes, unmould ad set aside.
  • Heat 2 teaspoons oil in a kadai. Add the cubed bell peppers and a pinch of salt. Saute well till the edges wilt. Set aside.
  • To the same oil, add /4 teaspoon mustard seeds, a pinch of asafoetida and 1/8 teaspoon turmeric powder. Saute well. Switch of the flame and add 1 teaspoon lemon juice. Mix well. Add 1/2 of the prepared idlis and saute. Toss well. Remove to a plate.
  • In the same kadai add 1 tablespoon ghee. Melt it for a minute. Add 2 tablespoons idli podi. Mix well. Switch off the flame and add the remaining idlis, Toss well. You can serve these idlid as such or proceed to make skewers.
  • Rinse few snack pickers well in water.
  • Arrange the prepared bell peppers and idlis in desired pattern. Serve idli skewers immediately.

Notes

1. You can make different colored idlis using curry leaves power, tomato thokku etc
2. Use toasted paneer in skewers if you wish
