Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups semiya/roasted vermicelli.
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • salt
  • Juice of one small lemon
  • To temper:
  • 3 teaspoons oil
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon urad dal
  • 1 teaspoon channa dal
  • 6-7 broken cashews
  • 1 tablespoon peanuts
  • 6-7 curry leaves
  • 1 green chili
  • 2 dried red chilies
  • 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida

Instructions

  • Heat 3 teaspoons gingely oil in a kadai. Temper with mustrd seeds. Add urad dal, channa dal, slit green chilies,minced ginger and asafoetida. Fry for 2-3 minutes till the dals turn golden brown.
  • Add dried red chilies, curry leaves and fry for 2 more minutes. Add peanuts and cashews, fry till golden. Add turmeric powder and saute well till the raw smell goes off.
  • Add measured semiya and mix well, saute for 1- 2 minutes.
  • Add water and salt, mix well, cover and cook till the water is absorbed and semiya is well cooked (5-7 minutes). Switch off the flame. Add lemon juice and mix well.Serve lemon semiya hot.

Notes

1. You can add grated carrot and peas after doing tadka.
2. The amount of water varies with the quality of semiya you use. Adjust water quantity based on that.
