Ingredients

  • 1 cup all purpose flour/ maida
  • 1/2 cup soft butter room temperature
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • A generous pinch of salt

Instructions

  • Take soft butter and sugar in a mixing bowl. Beat until light and creamy.
  • Add flour and salt. Mix well and knead slightly. Wrap the dough in butter paper and chill for an hour or 2.
  • Preheat oven at 170C 15 minutes before baking. You can either roll the dough and cut out cookies or shape each cookie by hand as I have did. Arrange the shaped cookies in a cookie tray.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges turn slightly dark. The cookie crisp up on cooling, so do not wait for the cookies to turn color or crisp up in the oven. Butte biscuits are meant to be in light shade. Serve butter biscuits at room temperature with tea or milk.

Notes

1. The cookies are not overly sweet with the given amount of sugar. Add more for sweeter cookies
2. You can use salted or unsalted butter
3. Refrain from adding vanilla
