  • 1/4 cup peanuts roasted
  • 2 large tomatoes chopped
  • 3-4 dried red chilies
  • A small piece of tamarind
  • Salt
  • 1 teaspoon oil
  • To temper:
  • 2 teaspoons oil
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon urad dal
  • curry leaves


  • Dry roast and rub the skin off the peanuts.
  • Heat 1 teaspoon oil in a pan and fry 3-4 dried red chilies. To that add 2 chopped tomatoes, a small piece of tamarind and saute well till the tomatoes are cooked. let cool thoroughly.
  • grind the sauteed tomatoes, along with roasted peanuts and required salt.
  • In the same pan, heat 2 teaspoons oil. Temper with mustard seeds, urad dal and curry leaves. Add to the prepared chutney and mix well. Serve peanut chutney with dosa or idli.
