Ingredients

For making cabbage kootu

  • 1 1/2 cups chopped cabbage
  • 1/2 cup green peas
  • 1/2 cup toor dal or moong dal

To temper cabbage kootu

  • 2 teaspoons oil
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon urad dal
  • 1 teaspoon chana dal
  • 10 curry leaves
  • 3 green chlies slit
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder

Other ingredient

  • 2 teaspoons lemon or lime juice

Instructions

To make cabbage kootu

  • Wash the cabbage thoroughly and chop it finely. Take the chopped cabbage in a pressure cooker along with green peas and washed toor dal. Add 1 1/4 cup water and mix well.Pressure cook for up to 6 whistles.
  • Once the pressure is settled season with salt and bring to a boil.

To temper cabbage kootu

  • Heat 2 teaspoons oil in a small pan. Temper with mustard seeds, urad dal, chana dal, curry leaves, asafoetida, turmeric powder and chopped green chilies.
  • Add the tempering to the prepared cabbage kootu and mix well. Simmer for two minutes. Add lemon juice and remove from flame. Serve cabbage kootu hot with rice.
