Seepu seedai recipe with step by step photos. Crispy, very mildly spiced Chettinad special snack with lovely flavor and taste of coconut milk. Seepu seedai recipe also known as seepu murukku is a easy one to make but a bit time consuming.
You need a special mould called seepu seedai achu or press to make this snack. There is also another method for making seepu seedai using a new comb. Ihave not tried making with comb so I do not know much about it.
Making seepu seedai was my long time wish. I got this very old handmade seepu seedai achu from my MIL last month and made it. Since Diwali 2016 is nearing I thought of sharing the seepu seedai recipe here for you all to plan. We need very few simple ingredients to make this recipe but it takes good 2 hours to make the quantity I have mentioned. Maybe I was a bot slow since it was my first time at that.
To make seepu seedai recipe you need fine rice flour, black gram (urad dal) flour, thick coconut milk. These are the main ingredients. No chili powder is used in this recipe. Make sure the coconut milk is thick and fresh. You can use store bought coconut milk too.

Step by step seepu seedai recipe
1. Grate the coconut and extract thick milk. We need around 1/4 cup+ 2 tablespoons of coconut milk. Warm the coconut milk for few minutes in low flame. Do not let it boil.
2. In a mixing bowl take rice flour, roasted black gram (urad dal) flour, roasted dal (pottukadalai) flour and 2 teaspoons hot oil. Add required salt and mix well.
3. Next add the warmed coconut milk and mix well. Start kneading, if needed add little warm water to make soft pliable dough.
4. Take a small pinch of dough and press gently over the mould. You will get a small strip with lines. Join both the ends to form a ring. Repeat the same with remaining dough.
5. Heat oil for deep frying. Deep fry the prepared rings in batches.
6. Deep fry in medium flame until the rings turn golden brown.
7. Cool thoroughly and store seepu seedai in airtight container. Serve with coffee.

- 3 tablespoons roasted gram flour
- 1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons thick coconut mik
- Salt
- Warm water
- Oil
