For making cabbage kootu
- 1 1/2 cups chopped cabbage
- 1/2 cup green peas
- 1/2 cup toor dal or moong dal
To temper cabbage kootu
- 2 teaspoons oil
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1 teaspoon urad dal
- 1 teaspoon chana dal
- 10 curry leaves
- 3 green chlies slit
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
Other ingredient
- 2 teaspoons lemon or lime juice
To make cabbage kootu
Wash the cabbage thoroughly and chop it finely. Take the chopped cabbage in a pressure cooker along with green peas and washed toor dal. Add 1 1/4 cup water and mix well.Pressure cook for up to 6 whistles.
Once the pressure is settled season with salt and bring to a boil.
To temper cabbage kootu
Heat 2 teaspoons oil in a small pan. Temper with mustard seeds, urad dal, chana dal, curry leaves, asafoetida, turmeric powder and chopped green chilies.
Add the tempering to the prepared cabbage kootu and mix well. Simmer for two minutes. Add lemon juice and remove from flame. Serve cabbage kootu hot with rice.
