UP style matar ka nimona recipe. With fresh green peas found everywhere in markets here is a very delicious fresh peas curry you can make in no time. This is a very different, flavorful and slightly runny curry with green peas, potatoes and few basic spices.

  • 2 cups fresh green peas
  • 3 `tablespoons oil
  • 1 large potato peeled and cubed
  • 1 tej patta
  • 2 cloves
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 inch ginger peeled and crushed
  • 3 garlic cloves peeled and crushed
  • 2 green chilies slit
  • 3/4 cup chopped onions
  • 1/2 cup chopped tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • 2 tablespoons coriander leaves
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice


  • Take shelled green peas in a mixer jar and pulse once or twice.
  • Heat 2 tablespoons oil in a pan. Add the cubed potatoes and fry until golden. Drain and set aside.
  • In the same oil, add tej pattta, cloves and cumin seeds. Saute well.
  • Add chopped onions and saute till they turn soft. Next add crushed ginger garlic and slit green chilies. Saute well till raw smell goes off.
  • Add chopped tomatoes and saute well. Add the crushed green peas and mix well.
  • Next add salt, chili powder and turmeric powder. Mix well and saute for few minutes.
  • Add 2-3 cups water to get the desired consistency. Bring to a boil and cook fr 3-4 minutes.
  • Add the fried potatoes, garam masala powder and coriander leaves. Mix well and remove from flame. Add lemon juice and serve matar ka nimona hot.
