Matra ka nimona is a popular recipe made in uttrar pradesh during the season. This matar recipe is very unique yet easy to make and tastes absolutely Delicious. You will love this slightly soupy matar recipe with interesting flavors.

What Is Nimaona?

Nimona is a spicy and soupy curry like preparation popular in Uttar Pradesh. You can make nimona with many ingredients and this matar ka nimona is the most popular one. Along with green peas we also add fried potatoes here.

The preparation of matar ka nimona is slightly different and interesting. Unlike regular peas masala or matar paneer, fresh peas is pulsed and used in nimona recipe. However the making of this matar recipe varies from region to region.

Few recipes call for grinding the peas, while few recipes just ask you crush them here and there. I like to pulse the green peas and use it in the recipe. Just pulse the peas once or twice to get the desired texture.

To make matar ka nimona I recommend fresh green peas. This dish is a delicacy that calls for best seasonal green peas. You can use frozen peas if you should but I would not recommend dry peas.

Serve matar nimona piping hot with ghee and rice. You can also serve with rotis, chapathi poori.

Tips To Make Best Matar Nimona Recipe

If you have moong dal or urad dal vadi you can fry and add it to the nimona.

How To Make Matar Ka Nimona Recipe Step by Step

Take shelled green peas in a mixer jar and pulse once or twice.

Heat 2 tablespoons oil in a pan. Add the cubed potatoes and fry until golden. Drain and set aside.

In the same oil, add tej pattta, cloves and cumin seeds. Saute well.

Add chopped onions and saute till they turn soft. Next add crushed ginger garlic and slit green chilies. Saute well till raw smell goes off.

Add chopped tomatoes and saute well.

Add the crushed green peas and mix well.making matar ka nimona recipe

 

Next add salt, chili powder and turmeric powder. Mix well and saute for few minutes.

Add 2-3 cups water to get the desired consistency. Bring to a boil and cook fr 3-4 minutes.

Add the fried potatoes, garam masala powder and coriander leaves. Mix well and remove from flame. Add lemon juice and serve matar ka nimona hot.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups fresh green peas
  • 3 `tablespoons oil
  • 1 large potato peeled and cubed
  • 1 tej patta
  • 2 cloves
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 inch ginger peeled and crushed
  • 3 garlic cloves peeled and crushed
  • 2 green chilies slit
  • 3/4 cup chopped onions
  • 1/2 cup chopped tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • 2 tablespoons coriander leaves
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
