Ingredients For Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix
Cocoa Powder
The star ingredient of this best hot chocolate recipe is cocoa powder so use the best quality one you can find. I sometimes use dutch processed cocoa powder too. You can use just cocoa powder or a mix of cocoa and cacao powder too.
Dry Milk Powder
Adding milk power wonderfully balances the cocoa flavor and lends a wonderful creamy rich taste to this drink. I like to add whole milk powder to this homemade mix for rich taste but you can also use skim milk powder or nonfat dry milk powder. For vegan option just use any plant based nut powder.
Sugar
Adding sugar gives a structure and also makes this mix truly instant. All you have to do is stir in this mix into hot milk and enjoy a cup of hot chocolate as it is already sweetened. I have used regular powdered sugar here but you can also use icing sugar or confectioner’s sugar, coconut sugar or powdered brown sugar.
Chocolate Chips
One ingredient I never miss while making this hot cocoa mix recipe is chocolate chips. You can use dark chocolate chips or milk chocolate chips or a mix of both. I feel addition of chocolate is what makes this drink real special. Chocolate chips has cocoa butter and makes the drink creamy unlike the addition of just cocoa powders
Salt
Yes, adding a dash of salt truly balances the flavor, taste and makes a perfect cup of hot chocolate.
