Rava murukku is a traditional murukku that is often made for festivals at our home. This recipe is from my aunt and she has been making it since many years. For some reason rava murukku is always made into bite size pieces just like butter murukku we get in shops, may be bite size pieces are easy to mix in mixture, a signature snack of Diwali.
This rava murukku tastes very different from the other murukkus, it is very light, crispy with a unique taste and texture, you should try this out to feel what I mean! If you eat this ravamurukku hot, it will be like vadam, I just felt that way :).
To make rava murukku recipe I used store bought processed rice flour (idiyappam flour) and very fine rava, so this is a no grind rava murukku. If your rava is not fine, you may have to pulse the rava for few seconds. You an use any shaped plate (achu) to make this murukku, I always use start shaped achu.

Rava murukku recipe with step by step photos.
1. Bring 1 1/4 cup water to boil. Add fine rava (if your rava is not fine pulse it in the mixer for few seconds) and stir well until cooked. The cooked rava will be like loose dough. Allow it to cool thoroughly. On cooling cooked rava will thicken.
2. Now take the cooked rava in a mixing bowl. Add all the other ingredients except oil. Heat oil for deep frying.
3. Now add the 3 teaspoon hot oil and mix well.
4. Bring the whole mixture together and knead well to make a pliable dough. The water content in the rava is enough to make the dough, if need add little water to make the dough. The dough should not be very stiff or loose.
5. Now take the prepared dough in the murukku press with star shaped achu, press into hot oil.
6. Deep fry until golden brown from both sides. Carefully flip the murukku and cook till the sizzling (shh) sound ceases. Cool and store rava murukku airtight.
