So I am planning to post some easy millet recipes here for everyone’s benefit.
Samai upma recipe is so simple to make, addition of vegetables make it more healthy and taste wise also it is very good. In fact it tastes just like arisi upma. Millet is little bit tough and chewy, so you will feel this samai upma somewhat chewy and nutty nonetheless very tasty.
I made this samai upma just like how we make rava upma in a kadai, but from next time onward I will be using a pressure cooker as I do for arisi upma. Cooking millet recipes in kadai takes some time, you need to keep checking and adding water. In this samai upma recipe, I have added pearl onions, carrots and green bell pepper. You can add or leave vegetables. You can even add roughly grinded toor dal and black peppercorns and make this like arisi upma.
Serve samai upma with pudina chutney or coconut chutney, even sambar or kothsu goes ell with this.
