I made this bread masala many months ago while I was bored with usual upma. This recipe was sitting in drafts and I almost forgot to blog about it, today while I was going through old pictures found this and sharing now as it is easy and tasty and apt for the season.
This bread masala recipe can be served as a quick snack or even breakfast if you are bored of plain bread and butter. The key to make tasty and delicious bread masala is to toast the bread slices until they turn crisp and mix them to the masala only while serving. The bread pieces should be crispy while eating, if you mix it prior it will turn soggy.
The main ingredients for masala is onion and tomato, if you wish you can add finely chopped capsicum and carrots. Addition of generous quantity of ginger-garlic, chaat masala powder and lemon juice makes this bread masala recipe, a very flavorful and spicy treat.

Bread masala recipe with step by step photos.
1. First the masala should be prepared. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a kadai. Temper with cumin seeds. Add slit green chilies, minced ginger garlic and saute well.
2. Add finely chopped onions and saute till the color changes.
3. Add finely chopped tomatoes and saute well for few minutes. Add finely chopped capsicum and mix well. Add salt and chili powder, saute well and cook till the tomatoes turn mushy and oil leaves out.
4. Just before serving take the bread slices and toast well with or with out oil. Break or cut the bread slices into cubes. Toss the cubed bread slices into the prepared masala and serve bread masala immediately.

- 6 bread slices
- 1 large onion finely chopped
- 2 to matoes finely chopped
- 1/2 green bell pepper finely chopped
- 2 green chilies
- 1 teaspoon minced ginger-garlic
- 1/2 teaspoon chaat masala powder
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- Salt
- 1 tablespoon oil
