I have used extra virgin olive oil here. You can even use light olive oil. The key for best pesto is to use best quality olive oil.
For spicier pesto increase the number of green chilies or you can even add a bit of pepper powder.
I have used roasted almonds with skin. You can also dry roast the blanched almonds and use for a smooth pesto.

Dry roast almonds in a hot skillet or tava for 3-4 minutes. Let cool.
