Momos chutney or dipping sauce

What Is Momos Chutney

Momos chutney is a fiery hot dipping sauce that we usually serve with momos recipe. I had momos at my friend’s place recently, she served momos with a dipping sauce, it was basically a chili garlic sauce what she called as momos chutney.

It was lip-smacking good to say the least, the momos chutney was irresistible that we lost the count of momos we had dunking in that momos chutney. I took the recipe for momos chutney from my friend and made it the very next week. This time I also made some fried momos along with steamed momos.

The momos chutney was very good with both types of momos. I kept on reaching for more sauce, this chili garlic sauce recipe is way better than store bought ones. Apart from using it as momos chutney you can use this chili garlic sauce in various indo chinese recipes.

How To Make Momos Chutney

To make momos chutney recipe very simple day to day ingredients are required. We need dried red chilies or chili flakes, garlic pods, vinegar, salt, sugar and some corn flour. Few recipes use tomato puree but we are making pure chili garlic sauce here!

Addition of vinegar, cornflour and sugar will offset the chilies and I feel there is no need for tomato in this chili garlic sauce recipe.

If you want to make it really very mildly spiced, you can add a small tomato in the recipe. To make a bright chili garlic sauce that is mildly spiced you can always use dried kashmiri red chilies or a mix of kashmiri red chilies and long red chilies.

The amount of garlic in this momos chutney recipe is personal choice. I have used 6 large garlic pods as we like mild garlic taste. If you prefer garlic flavor you can use up to 12 large garlic pods in this momos chutney recipe.

If kept well in a clean bottle this chili garlic sauce stays good for 10 days in fridge. You can use this momos chutney in various recipes whichever calls for chili garlic sauce. You can also serve this chili garlic sauce as dipping sauce for various snacks.
