Paneer popcorn recipe is one of the easy paneer snack recipes that you can make for toddlers and kids. These crunchy paneer pops are for all the vegetarian folks and it is an imitation of popular popcorn chicken. Do try out this for your evening snack and you will love it!
Paneer popcorn recipe with step wise photos. In this vegetarian paneer snack recipe we are using gram flour instead of egg in the batter. Using gram flour instead of plain flour makes this snack healthier. For seasoning I have used a bit of red chili powder, garam masala powder and cumin powder.
I have made these paneer pops with Indian spices. You can however totally change the flavorings as per preference. Instead of red chili powder you can use pepper powder. Dried herbs and chili flakes can also be used to season paneer in this snack recipe.
Making paneer popcorn is very easy. You just need very few ingredients. For outer covering I have used gram flour. You can even use plain flour or rice flour too.
I have used wheat bread crumbs for coating the pops. You can even pulse roasted poha and use it for coating. Please see tips and variations for more ideas. This paneer popcorn stays crispy for a long time.
Serve paneer popcorn with green chutney or spicy red chutney. For toddlers and kids you can serve as such or sweet chutney.
Tips and variations:
- Use pepper powder, dried herbs and chili flakes instead of Indian spices.
- For outer covering you can use maida or corn flour
- Vegans can use tofu cubes instead of paneer
- Dry roast poha and pulse it for few seconds. This can be used instead of bread crumbs. You can also use roasted rava instead of bread crumbs.

How to make paneer popcorn recipe
1. Add cubed paneer to a mixing bowl. Add chili powder, garam masala powder and cumin powder. Add a pinch of salt. Mix well and set aside for 10 minutes.
2. Take gram flour, chili powder, salt in another mixing bowl. To that add water gradually and make a lump free batter. The batter should be thick enough for paneer cubed to hold it well. If the batter is too thick popcorns will turn hard after frying. If the batter is very thin it will not coat the paneer cubes properly.
3. Add the paneer cubes to the prepared batter and coat well.
4. Roll each batter coated paneer cube over bread crumbs. Arrange on a plate and refrigerate for 20 minutes.
5. Heat oil for deep frying.Once the oil is hot fry the paneer cubes in medium flame. Fry until the paneer cubes turn golden and crispy.
6. Drain excess oil and serve paneer popcorn hot.

- 1.5 cups cubed paneer/ Indian cottage cheese 1 inch
