Aloo jhol is the side dish for poori popular in Uttar pradesh. Aloo poori combination is a very popular and loved one across India. In south India we have poori masala as popular breakfast. In restaurants poori is alwys served with spicy potato besan masala. Few other popular side dish for poori are bombay chutney, tomato gotsu, sagu, veg kurma, shrikand.
To make aloo jhol I have used a pressure cooker. So making aloo jhol is easy this way. This potato curry should be thin as jhol means thin gravy. But if you prefer thicker gravy you can adjust the consistency too.
Serve aloo jhol with poori. It also tastes very good with roti, rice.

How to make aloo jhol recipe
heat a pressure cooker with 2 teaspoons oil.
temper with cumin seeds.
Add crushed ginger garlic, green chilies and saute well.
Now add chopped onions and saute till they turn soft.
Add the chopped tomatoes and saute till they turn mushy.
Now add the cubed potatoes and mix well.
Add spice powders and salt. Saute for 2-3 minutes.
Add 1 1/2 cups water and pressure cook for 3-4 whistles.
Once the pressure settles down, simmer for 3-4 minutes if needed.
Garnish with coriander leaves and serve aloo jhol hot.

1 CUP = 250 ml
Ingredients
- 3 large potatoes
- 1 big onion chopped
- 1 tomato chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon crushed ginger garlic
- 2 green chilies
- Salt to taste
- 2 teaspoons oil
