Tomato gothsu recipe with step by step photos. Quick and easy side dish recipe for idli with tomatoes and onions. Tomato gothsu recipe is a simple side dish for idli that I make often. It is a great choice when you want to make varieties of side dish for idlis quickly. This will be a tasty addition to your idlis side dish recipes just like tomato allam pachadi, coconut chutney, peanut chutney, pudina chutney.

I usually make another version of this tomato gothsu what we call as tomato gojju. Tomato gojju is Karnataka recipe with rasam powder in it. The tomato gothsu recipe I am sharing here is made with just chilli powder. This easy tomato side dish tastes good with idli, dosa, poori. You can also mix rice with this tomato gothsu for a quick variety rice. You can also serve this as pickle with curd rice.

To make tomato gothsu use plump ripe tomatoes. I have used big onion in this recipe. but pearl onions will also taste very good. I have used chilli powder here you can even use sambar powder. This tomato gothsu stays good for 2-3 days in refrigerator.

Serve tomato gothsu with idli or dosa, neer dosa, aloo paratha, rava dosa, rava idli, paratha.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 big ripe tomatoes
  • 1 big onion finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon chilli powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon jaggery
  • 10-12 curry leaves
  • 1 tablespoon channa dal
  • 1 teaspoon urad dal
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • 2 teaspoons oil
  • Salt

Instructions
 

  • Chop onion and tomatoes finely.
  • Heat a pan with 2 teaspoons oil. Temper with mustard seeds, urad dal, channa dal and curry leaves.
  • Add sliced onions and saute till they turn soft
  • Add chopped tomatoes, salt, chilli powder and turmeric powder. Mix well and saute in low flame for 5 minutes
  • Add 3/4 cup water and simmer till gravy consistency is reached. Garnish with coriander leaves. Serve Tomato gotsu hot with idli
