Fresh fruit juices and fruit infused waters are my all time favorite drinks. I always make them with seasonal fruits. If you don’t prefer sugary and pulpy fruit juices then go for lighter agua frescas.
Agua fresca is a light and refreshing drink made with fruit, water, lemon or lime and a bit of sweetener. As we add water, this drink is very thin, light and not pulpy. Makes for a perfect drink that you can keep sipping all day long.
I have made this drink with many fruits and here we are using strawberries. With sweet, ripe berries you need just a dash if sweetener to make a delicious drink.

To make strawberry agua fresca you need just four ingredients. Ripe strawberries, water, sweetener and a dash of lemon juice. Lemon or lime juice is an optional ingredient but totally rounds off the flavor and highly recommend it.
Making this drink cannot be easier. You just rinse and hull the berries first. Throw hulled strawberries, sweetener and lemon juice in a blender and blend smoothly. Add water and lemon juice as per taste, mix well and serve 🙂
What is the perfect water to fruit ratio for this drink?
It really depends on how diluted or concentrated you prefer your drink. I usually make a very diluted drink so I add around 2 cups water for 1 cup fruit puree. You can also add 1 or 1.5 cup water for less diluted drink.
What can I add instead of water in agua fresca?
Traditionally agua fresca is made only with water. Agua means water in Spanish. Having said that you can replace water with plain soda in this recipe. Another healthier change that I make is to use coconut water instead of plain water.
Coconut water is rich in minerals and has detoxing properties. Also it is more flavorful and delicious than soda. So if you are going to replace water, I recommend using coconut water.
Which Sweetener is best for agua fresca?
Usually an agua fresca is not very sweet like a fruit juice. It has the flavor of fruit with a slight hint of sweetness. You can add any of your preferred sweetener in this recipe. I usually add organic raw sugar or cane sugar. You can also use honey, maple, coconut sugar, palm sugar or date syrup.
What are the best fruits for agua fresca?
I make agua fresca with many fruits and few of my favorites are
- watermelon
- mango
- musk melon or honey dew melon
- pineapple
- of course strawberries
How To Make Strawberry Agua Fresca
1. Rinse, wipe and hull the strawberries.
2. Combine hulled berries and sugar in a blender.
3. Blend smooth
4. Add water and lemon juice. Mix well.
5. Serve strawberry agua fresca with ice cubes.
Tips For Making Best Agua Fresca
Make sure to blend fruit very smoothly as we are not straining the pulp.
You can make this drink ahead and refrigerate till serving
Lemon or lime juice is optional.
While making for adults you can add a dash of preferred alcohol
Recipe can be doubled.

Ingredients

- 3 teaspoon sugar
- 2 teaspoons lemon or lime juice
