Amla derived from the Sanskrit word Amalaki is the fruit commonly known as Indian gooseberry. I usually make this juice with a pinch of salt and black pepper. Sometimes I add a dash of honey or palm sugar to entice my daughter.
When you make amla juice you can also add some lemon juice, ginger, few curry leaves, a dash of moringa powder to this.
I never filter the pulp or pass it through the sieve. By doing that we will loose some of the nutrition too. Amla is easy to grind and you can grind into a smooth paste very easily which eliminates the need to sieve it.
If you wish to flavor the juice you can 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder, a dash pure edible camphor etc.

How To Make Amla Juice Recipe
With Fresh Amlas
Rinse and wipe 2-3 raw amla fruit thoroughly. Dice them and remove the small pit inside each fruit as you dice.
Add the chopped amlas to a small mixer grinder.
Add 1/2 cup water to it.
Blend into a smooth paste. Add a big pinch of salt and 1/2 teaspoon palm sugar or raw sugar and blend again.
Transfer to a large bowl.
Add 3 cups water and mix thoroughly.
Serve immediately. To get the full benefits of this juice, avoid refrigeration or adding excessive sugar.
With Dried Amlas
If you do not have fresh amla you can use dried ones. It is available in Indian stores or online.
Soak 3-4 pieces of big dried amla in 1/2 cup warm water for 7-8 hours.
Once it is softened blend to a fine paste with same water. The color will be darker.
Add a pinch of salt, sugar if needed and top with 3 cups water. Mix well and serve.
With Yogurt
We sometimes make a yogurt drink called chaas or buttermilk with amlas. For that just add 3 tablespoons thick fresh yogurt while blending gooseberries. Avoid sugar and add only salt. Top with water as required, mix well and serve Indian buttermilk drink immediately.
Serving Suggestions
If you are drinking amla juice for detox, it is best to consume in empty stomach. For kids it is better to serve few hours after taking food or as mid morning drink.
Do not make and store this drink. Make it fresh and drink asap.
