Our love for banana bread led to this yet another variation with chocolate chips. This is one easy recipe that you will totally love to bake and eat. Mess free easy one bowl recipe, best way to use up those sad overripe bananas 🙂
To make this easy sweet bread recipe I have used this recipe as base and altered it a bit. Made with whole wheat flour, almond milk and whole of chocolate chips, this bread was too good with our tea. Kids will love this with pistachio milk, saffron milk or juice or milkshakes.
I love to bake with fruits and regular pantry ingredients rather than sourcing specialty ingredients. Most of bakes are with whole wheat and all of them are eggless. If you like simple everyday bakes you may check out apple muffins, strawberry muffins, carrot cake, carrot muffins, dates cake etc.
This chocolate chip banana bread was also super hit at our home. I had purchased some really good organic chocolate chips and used them in this recipe. Quality chocolate chips impart wonderful taste and flavor, so use good ones for best taste. The whole recipe is made using one bowl and a beater. So all you need for this delicious sweet bread are two ripe bananas and few other simple ingredients.
Even if you don’t have chocolate chip handy, you can still make this recipe. Add chopped chocolate if available or even chopped nuts. You can also simply leave out the add ons and make super soft plain banana bread.
Do try out this easy sweet bread and enjoy. Goes well as breakfast or snack.

Ingredients You Will Need
Flour– I have used only whole wheat flour in this recipe. Wheat flour is a healthier option in cakes but the cake or bread will be a bit dense and dark in color. If you are very particular about very light cakes or making for guests you can use plain flour. You can also use combination of plain flour and wheat flour.
Sugar– For this recipe I have used organic raw sugar in this recipe. You can also use granulated white sugar, palm sugar or coconut sugar. You can also use honey if you are not vegan.
Bananas– Overripe sweet bananas work best here. If you have overripe bananas just store them in freezer and make this cake at your convenience. You can also use the frozen bananas to make smoothies, pancakes etc.
Flavoring- Cinnamon and vanilla goes well in this recipe. However if you don’t have vanilla just use cinnamon powder or you can even use fennel powder, cardamom or nutmeg. Even almond extract or coconut extract will taste good
Chocolate chips– use good quality chocolate chip for best flavor. I have used vegan organic dark chocolate chips. You can also use semi sweet or milk chocolate chips (non vegan). Chocolate pellets can also be used. Even finely chopped dark chocolate can be used.

Variations & Ingredients Swap
Few of my readers wrote to me asking for substitutes or alternate ingredients while baking. Since our resources are limited in these times we may not have all the ingredients handy to make any recipe. Here I am mentioning few swaps you can make
Baking powder– if you do not have baking powder just increase baking soda by another 1/2 teaspoon
Baking soda– if baking soda is not available use 2 teaspoons baking powder instead of mentioned 1.5 teaspoons quantity.
Oil- Use any neutral cooking oil. You can even use light olive oil, it will taste good.
Storing Leftovers
This chocolate chip banana bread stays moist and nice for up to a week in refrigerator. As this is a fruit and oil based recipe, it stays good for sometime.
Store the leftover cake in airtight box and keep refrigerated. You can take it out 30 minutes before serving.
You can also slightly toast the bread slices before serving.
I hope you will try this recipe and enjoy as much as we did. P
