Ingredients & Substitutes
Coffee Mixture
You can use any variety of coffee here.
Hot Coffee & Coffee Ice Cubes
If you leftover coffee from the morning, just chill it until use. You can even bring the hot coffee to room temperature and pour it in ice cube trays and freeze. You can use this whenever you want to make cold coffee
Cold brew coffee
If you prefer cold brew coffee, you can use it too. Cold brew is stronger so adjust quantity as per preference.
Instant coffee powder
This is the easiest options out there for making iced coffee at home. Most of the Indian cafes and bistros use instant coffee powder to make iced coffee. I have also used the same here.
Other options are espresso shots, French press coffee etc.
Milk
Use full fat milk or whole milk for a very rich and creamy drink. For a lighter version you can use skimmed milk too. For a super rich drink you can also add 2 tablespoons milk powder. Use chilled milk for best taste. You can even use half milk and half cream for a richer coffee shake.
Vegan option– Just use any plant based milk like almond milk or soy milk. You can also use coconut milk if you don’t mind the flavor.
Ice cream
Adding ice cream in cold coffee recipe is optional but recommended for indulgent drink. You can add vanilla ice cream, coffee ice cream, chocolate ice cream as per taste.
Sub– Instead of ice cream you can add 1/2 cup whipping cream or heavy cream and blend along with other ingredients for this homemade iced coffee recipe.
Sweetener
You can use regular sugar, brown sugar, coconut sugar, sugar syrup, simple syrup, sweetened vanilla syrup or maple syrup as per taste. I have used sugar and topped the coffee with little maple syrup.
Flavoring
I have used pure vanilla bean powder here. You can also use coffee extract, little cinnamon powder for this. Feel free to try various flavored syrups for different taste.
Cocoa powder
I love adding some cocoa powder in my cold coffee. It absolutely compliments the coffee flavor and elevates the taste. You can also add chocolate syrup instead of cocoa powder.
Salt
A pinch of salt in this drink, ties all the flavor together and makes it so good, try adding if you have not before.
Ice Cubes
Ice cubes are used to add some volume and also make the drink super cold. Adding ice cubes dilute the drink. If you make cold coffee without ice cream, I suggest you freeze both coffee mixture and milk in ice cube trays and use them instead of ice cubes. Milk cubes make thick chilled drink.
