While it is absolutely delicious and refreshing to eat a watermelon as such, having few more delicious ways to eat it is also good right. We love watermelon juice & it is one of the easy and best ways to enjoy this fruit.
Sometimes I just slice a watermelon and just blend to get the pure taste of the fruit. On some days I add some chopped ginger, lemon juice, mint leaves, a dash of honey or sugar.
Another way to spike the taste and flavor of watermelon juice is to add a dash of freshly black pepper, rock salt or pink salt. You can even add a wee bit of chaat masala powder for a wonderful spicy twist.
Here I have added a bit of ginger and lemon juice in this drink. Ginger is a wonderful immunity booster loaded with antioxidants and also helps to treat digestive disorders. Ginger also helps fighting nausea, common cold etc.
Lemon is added for flavor but is also adds Vitamin C to this drink. Lemon, again is a wonderful fruit to be consumed in summers. It keeps us refreshed and light.

How To Pick A Good Watermelon
Picking a good watermelon can be a bit tricky especially if you are beginner. Thankfully there are few indications that will help you choose the perfectly ripe and delicious watermelon. Here is what you need to look for while picking up a watermelon.
Always pickup a firm melon that is uniform on the surface without any cuts or bruises. Yielding to pressure or cuts indicate that the melon is overripe. Also make sure the melon you pick is matte and not shiny.
When you pick up a melon, look for a nice yellow spot or splotch it develops on where it rests on ground. This indicates the ripeness of the melon.
Next the fruit should be heavy for its weight. This indicates that the fruit is juicy and plump. Next when you tap the melon, it should produce a hollow sound which indicates it is fully ripe.
How To Cut A Watermelon
Rinse, pat dry and just let the whole watermelon dry on its own.
Using a sharp knife, cut it into two. Now you will have two large pieces as seen in the phot.
Cut each piece vertically and then again vertically to get four quarters.
Now using a knife gently scrape of the peel and white pith.
Next gently scoop of the seeds. Please note that watermelon is full of seeds and you can only scoop off the large visible ones at the surface. As you cut you will find tiny white seeds but they blend easily.
If you prefer you can also use seedless watermelon for juicing but I prefer the ones with seeds.
Watermelon seeds are absolutely edible and they also contain traces of zinc and Magnesium. So if some melon seeds come in your way while eating or juicing the fruit, it is absolutely fine 🙂
Now dice or cube the melon as you prefer and place in a large bowl. You can pick out any visible seeds as you cut.
How To Make Watermelon Juice
Cut and slice a watermelon as mentioned above. For 3 servings of this juice you will need about 6-7 cups of chopped watermelon.
Add the cubed melon in a blender jar. Add peeled and chopped ginger. If your fruit is not sweet enough then add 1-2 tablespoons sugar or honey now.
Blend at high speed until you get a smooth juice. Add 2 tablespoons lemon juice and blend again. You can also use lime juice instead of lemon juice.
Pour watermelon juice to a serving glass and serve this refreshing watermelon juice immediately. You don’t have to strain the juice but if you really want to remove the watermelon pulp then pass it through a fine mesh strainer once.
Using A Juicer
To make watermelon juice in a slow juicer just cut and remove the pith and follow the juicer instructions. It is believed that slow juicer retains more nutrition as it does not heat up while juicing.
Flavor Variations
You can fresh mint leaves & lemon juice along with water melon for a wonderful refreshing mojito like flavor.
To add a spicy twist to this watermelon juice you can add cracked black pepper or pepper powder, a wee bit of dr7 mango powder or chaat masala powder.
Along with watermelon you can combine apple, orange or strawberries to make juice. Try adding mango, papaya or pineapple to add a tropical touch.
You can also blend this juice with 1 cup tender coconut water and 1 cup tender coconut meat for a wonderful smoothie.
If you prefer to make a slushy drink you can throw in few ice cubes and blend until you get a slightly slush texture.
You can also add some crushed ice, few mint leaves and lemon slices before serving.

To make chilled juice you can refrigerate the cubed fruit for few hours and then blend. You can also add ice cubes but it will thin down the juice.
If you use sweet watermelon you can easily skip sugar. Instead of sugar you can also use honey, maple or date syrup. You can also use simple syrup if you have.
If you have excess watermelon you can just freeze it and blend as required.

You can store fresh whole watermelon for 7-10 days at room temperature. Once cut you can cube and place them in a airtight container and store for 2 days.
If you have excess melon you can freeze them for a month and use it in various ways. Cube the melon and spread on a baking sheet as single layer. Freeze for 2-3 hours. Once the fruit is completely frozen transfer to freezer bags and store the frozen fruit.
