I am big on making homemade sauces and dips always. I prefer to make my own pizza sauce, pasta sauce and green chutney as they are more clean and tasty. Apart from regular Indian condiments I do store some continental sauces tat would get us through busy weekdays.
This roasted bell pepper sauce is a new favorite at home. Apart from making soup and pasta, you can make a delicious sauce with roasted bell pepper. This sauce is so good in sandwiches, pastas, paneer pizza as dip with momos, focaccia. I also serve this sauce with idli, dosa and naan 🙂
Here I have taken the easy route and roasted the chopped bell pepper very well in oil instead of flame roasting or oven roasting. If you prefer you can roast the bell pepper in flame and fry the other ingredients.
To make roasted bell pepper sauce you need very few ingredients and less time. I have used copious amount of garlic for flavor and some tamarind as preservative. You can leave out tamarind too but with tamarind the sauce keeps well for 7-8 days in fridge.
I have made this into smooth bell pepper sauce but you also make a chunky roasted bell pepper sauce.
Store the sauce in a clean dry jar and use a dry spoon to serve.
Variations With Roasted Bell Pepper Sauce.
In this recipe I have just added garlic for flavor. You can also add some dried herbs in this sauce
Try adding dried oregano, rosemary or mixed herbs.
You can also add finely chopped parsley or coriander leaves.
To give it an Indian touch you can add some roasted cumin seeds while pureeing the sauce.

- 1 big bell pepper chopped
- 1 tomato chopped
- 6 dried red chilies
- salt to taste
- tamarind small piece
