Tips For Making Best Saffron Tea
Get the best saffron you can- Saffron being the most expensive spice in the world, it is also one of the most adulterated spice. To get all the benefits of this saffron tea or any other recipe you use saffron for, it is important to get the real ones.
I always buy organic saffron from my local trusted source. Be wary when you purchase online even if it is from a popular brand as they can duplicated very easily. Sweetened coconut flakes or safflower threads are common adulterants with saffron.
Pure saffron strands have a very sweet intoxicating smell, very very delicate and does not stain immediately. I mean if you put few strands of saffron in water, it stains only after few minutes. The fake colored ones stain immediately though.
Always use saffron very sparingly. It produces heat on the body as adding too much is not advised.
Sweetener- I make this tea mostly without any sweetener as saffron itself adds a sweet note to this tea. However you can add some honey or sugar before serving if you like.
