How To Make Sweet Potato Patties?
To make sweet potato patties begin by pressure cooking the sweet potatoes. Once done peel and mash the sweet potatoes well.
Next heat some oil in a pan and temper with cumin seeds.Add minced ginger garlic,slit green chilies and saute well.Add chopped onions and saute followed by grated carrots. Saute briefly and remove from flame. Let this cool for a while.
Next add the sauteed ingredients to the mashed sweet potatoes. Mix well and season with salt. Add some bread crumbs to bind the mixture. Pinch small balls and make into patties.
How To Fry Sweet Potato Patties?
Once you have shaped the patties you can either deep fry them or shallow fry them. As an alternate way you can also toast them on a skillet or even bake the patties.
To deep fry or shallow fry the patties:
First prepare a thin lump free batter of 2 tablespoons corn flour with 1/2 cup water. Dip the shaped patties and roll over the bread crumbs.
Heat oil for deep frying or shallow frying. Slide the prepared patties and fry until golden and crispy. drain excess oil and serve.
To toast the sweet potato patties on tava or skillet just toast them on hot tava after shaping. No need to dip in corn flour batter or roll over bread crumbs.
How To Make Sweet Potato Patties in Oven?
For making these patties in oven first of all shape all the patties. Heat oven at 180 C. Prepare a large baking sheet by greasing with few drops of oil. Place the shaped patties in single layer and bake for 10-12 minutes. Flip and bake for 5-7 more minutes or until golden and crispy.
Can You Freeze Sweet Potato Patties?
Yes, the shaped uncooked patties can be easily frozen and fried when needed. Store them in a freezer safe bix or zip lock bag. Just thaw them for 10-20 minutes before frying.
You can also freeze the fried patties and reheat when serving.

You can use 1 large potato along with sweet potato in this recipe. Just use one sweet potato in that case.
Adjust the seasoning as per taste
Instead of bread crumbs you can use panko crumbs or pulsed oats or pulsed rice flakes or poha.
Along with grated carrots you can add green peas, boiled corn too.

- 2 big sweet potatoes boiled,peeled and mashed
- 2 teaspoons oil
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds

- 1 onion chopped
- 3/4 cup grated carrots
- salt to taste
- 1.5 cups bread crumbs
- 2 tablespoons corn flour
- 1/2 cup water
- oil for frying
