Palak pakoda recipe is a tasty and easy snack we make with whole spinach leaves, chickpea or gram flour and some spices. You can make this snack in no time if you have palak (spinach) handy. Do you have someone in your family that deter spinach leaves? well, try this palak pakoda recipe as a starter for them and you will see them coming back for more 🙂 Then you can gradually include more spinach in their diet by making palak paneer, spinach pasta, palak paratha, dal palak, palak pulao, palak poori and more.

How To Make Palak Pakoda?

To make palak pakoda recipe we need full tender palak leaves, chickpea or gram flour, rice flour and some Indian spices. The palak leaves you use should be whole, fresh and tender.

Make a slightly thick batter with flours, spices and salt. Make sure there are no lumps in the batter. Also the batter should be able to coat the palak leaves well.

Rinse, clean and remove the thick stalk from spinach leaves. Gently pat them dry. Dip each leaf in the prepared batter and deep fry in hot oil in medium flame.

Drain excess oil and serve hot. You can sprinkle some chaat masala and serve with lemon wedges too.

Now this is one way of making palak pakora. There is one more way you can make it too in the lines of onion pakoda.

Variations With Palak Pakora Recipe:

In this method of making palak pakoda, we first need to clean,dry and chop the palak leaves.

Now mix in some chopped onions, chopped green chilies, minced ginger and mix well. Set aside for 10 minutes

By now the leaves would have let out some water. Add gram flour, rice flour and mix very well. Do not add more water.

Pinch small balls from the mixture and deep fry in hot oil. Drain and serve.

Palak pakora made in this way is more crispy and also stays crispy for long. You can make this ahead and reheat in oven or microwave for few minutes.

Serve Palak pakoda as snack or starter with green chutney.

How To Make Palak Pakoda Recipe Step By Step

1. Gently rinse and clean the spinach leaves. Pat dry without tearing them. Also remove the thick stalk if any.

2. Heat oil for deep frying palak pakoda. While the oil is heating prepare the batter for pakoda.

3. Into a bowl, mix gram flour, rice flour, chili powder, asafoetida, salt. Mix well.

4. Gradually add water and mix into a lump free batter. Dip one spinach leaf at a time into the batter. Coat well.

5. Gently drop in the hot oil and deep fry in medium flame until golden from both sides.

6. Finish frying all the leaves in the same way. Gently drain excess oil and serve palak pakora hot. You can sprinkle some chaat masala powder and serve with lemon wedges.

Ingredients
  

  • 12 palak leaves spinach leaves
  • 3/4 cup gram flour , besan or chickpea flour
  • 1/4 cup rice flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida OR carom seeds
  • Salt to taste
  • Water for making batter
  • 1/2 teaspoon chaat masala powder optional
  • lemon wedges to serve
