Take your summer treats a level up with this amazing sharjah shake or dressed up banana shake. With just few ingredients and 5 minutes you can make this cream thick shake that everyone will love. Here is how to make south Indian fame sharjah shake at home easily.
I was smitten by this sharjah shake during our stay in Bangalore. It is just a fancy version of banana milkshake with some chocolate malt powder and nuts. It is very popular in Kerala, given to the abundance of bananas.
There are many variations with this milkshake and here I am sharing the way I make it. I have also mentioned few popular combos that you can pick from.

To make sharjah milkshake you will need ripe bananas, malt powder like horlicks, boost, nuts like almonds or peanuts, milk and sugar. This is a very forgivable recipe that you can vary all the ingredients and end up with a very delicious shake. Here is a breakdown of ingredients along with variations you can try.
Sharjah Shake Ingredients
Banana- Bananas are the main ingredient of this shake. Use ripe sweet country variety for best tasting shake. I have used 3 small yelaki variety here. You can use poovan too. You can also use frozen bananas for creamier shake.
Milk- Full fat whole milk is preferred for creamy thick shake. Usually for sharjah shake frozen milk is used. Frozen milk just improves the texture of any milkshake. I usually boil, chill and freeze the milk in ice cube tray. This way Thick creamy shake is just a step away 🙂
Malt Powder- Any kind of malt powder of your choice. Mostly horlicks is used in this recipe and here I have used boost. I usually don’t stock up or consume these health drinks. I just bought a small sachet for this recipe. Going forward I will just use cocoa powder here.
Nuts- If you like the taste, you can use salted peanuts in sharjah shake. You can also add just a tablespoon of peanut butter. We like this milkshake with almonds so I use only raw almonds. Even you can add cashews.
Sweetener- Sugar , honey, palm sugar or coconut sugar can be used.
With very few simple ingredients like this this shake turns out really wonderful and delicious. The flavor of banana is not overpowering as the malt powder balances it.
The first time I tried this shake, I thought they must have added copious amount if ice cream but later I learnt it was just bananas and frozen milk.
If your blender will not crush or blend frozen milk, you can slightly crush it with a pestle and then add it. Also if you don’t have malt powder just add cocoa powder or drinking chocolate. A pinch of coffee powder will also improve the flavor.
To make this shake more special you can throw in few spoons of whipping cream.
How To Make Sharjah Shake
Boil, chill and freeze the milk. Semi frozen milk is fine too.
To a blender jar add ripe chopped bananas, malt powder, almonds, frozen milk.
Also add required sugar
Blend until smooth and frothy.
Serve chilled immediately.
Can you make this dish vegan?
Yes, to make vegan sharjah shake just use coconut or almond milk instead of dairy milk.
Can we make this milkshake with ice cream?
Yes, to make this shake more creamy by adding a scoop or two of vanilla or chocolate ice cream.
What more variations can we make with this recipe?
You can add 3-4 soaked dates in sharjah shake.

- 3 tablespoons chocolate malt powder boost, bournvita
- 10 raw almonds or cashews or 2 tablespoons peanuts
- 3 teaspoon sugar or honey
- Boil, chill and freeze the milk. Semi frozen milk is fine too.
