This elaichi milk is a childhood favorite that we grew up drinking. Elaichi means cardamom in Hindi. Flavored with fresh cardamom pods, a bit of saffron and sweetened with a bit of sugar this is a drink that is delicious as well as healthy.
While growing up a glass of milk was a norm before bedtime. As we strongly detested plain milk we would be offered various flavored milk. While every morning we had ragi malt or sathu mavu kanji, night it would be saffron milk, cardamom milk, turmeric milk or occasional badam milk, pista milk.
Of all the drinks this elaichi milk is one simple recipe but it has immense health benefits. If you have kids that won’t drink plain milk such flavored milks are really a boon. You can easily vary the flavors and get the benefits of the flavoring ingredients as well like cardamom, saffron, turmeric etc.
Such naturally flavored homemade beverages are hands down better than store bought sugar and preservative laden flavored milks or health drinks. I usually have badam milk powder and milk masala powder handy to make masala or badam milk. While making at home you have the total control over ingredients.
This cardamom milk is one such naturally flavored drink that I often make for my kid. With just two cardamom pods and a pinch of saffron this cardamom milk turns out very flavorful and delicious.
